Before You Book Your Wedding DJ, Ask These 5 Questions

Choosing a wedding DJ is about more than finding someone who plays your favorite songs. You want someone who makes planning feel easy, understands your crowd, and knows when to bring the energy.
After 16 years of DJing weddings, these are the questions I’d encourage every couple to ask.
1. Will you actually be our DJ?
You should know who will be behind the booth on your wedding day.
At Lowcountry Events, if you book me and I tell you I’m going to be your DJ, you get me—Craig Edelson. If I’m already booked and you choose another DJ I work with, you’ll know that from the beginning.
It’s a simple question, but the answer matters.
2. What’s your style on the microphone?
Some couples want a big personality leading the party. Others prefer a quieter approach. Ask your DJ what feels natural to them.
My style is fun yet classy. I bring energy when the moment calls for it and make clear announcements when guests need to know what’s happening. Most of the time, I let the music and your celebration do the talking.
3. How do you choose what to play?
Your favorite songs should help shape the night. But a great reception also needs room to respond to the people on the dance floor.
I love watching what guests respond to and blending songs to fit the mood. Every wedding is different. A song that fills the floor at one reception might land differently at the next.
We’ll talk about what you love—and what you don’t want to hear—then leave room for the party to find its rhythm.
4. How much do we need to plan?
You shouldn’t have to become a music director to enjoy your wedding.
We’ll work through the important details together: special songs, introductions, and the moments that matter to you. My advice is to choose vendors you feel comfortable trusting, share your vision, and give them room to do their best work.
A thoughtful plan helps everyone relax. It also leaves space for those unexpected moments that make the day yours.
5. What do you love about weddings?
For me, it’s that end-of-the-night hug when a couple says I helped make their day amazing. When their parents come over to say the same thing, that means just as much.
That’s what makes all the preparation worth it.
